Little Toby Walker in Concert

There is nothing "little" about Little Toby Walker. He has a big voice, a big but intricate sound on guitar, and a big thirst for real blues. He's known across the States and Europe, on stages of all sizes, as a blazing blues virtuoso.

He carried off the International Blues Challenge Award in Memphis in 2002, and hasn't slowed down since. He also applies his fine finger-style picking to ragtime, old-timey, and country. He gets the feel just right, both on traditional songs and his own compositions.

To feed and inform his passion for blues, Toby Walker "did time" in the Mississippi Delta, the Carolinas, and Virginia, seeking out the old masters and learning from them directly: Eugene Powell, James "Son" Thomas, Etta Baker, and R. L Burnside.

In addition to a heavy performance schedule, he gives back by teaching. He won raves in Carnegie Hall's American Roots program in schools, where he demonstrated the technique and shared rich stories of the history of blues. The New York Times credits Little Toby Walker with helping to "fire up" the blues resurgence, and famed bluesman John Hammond declares him "A real killer with fantastic technique. He just knocks me out."

It's been too long since The Cornell Folk Song Society brought on the deep blues. Please join us in a big welcome for Little Toby.
