Anne Hills is no stranger to Ithaca, but she will be making her first solo appearance for the Cornell Folk Song Society in over a decade. Back when she first came to Ithaca, she was one of contemporary folk music's hottest rising stars. Now she reigns as one of folk music's premier vocalists.

Her success is due not only to, "The pure beauty of her voice," as Tom Paxton has described her stunning soprano, but for the fulsome gaiety of her stage presence and her knack for presenting just the right material. Anne finds her own voice in excellent interpretations of songs by the likes of Jack Hardy, Michael Smith, Eliza Gilkyson, Phil Ochs, or David Roth, and her own original songs range from warmly stunning to remarkable.

Born in India and raised in Michigan, Anne spent her early years in the music business in Chicago and now hails from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She has interspersed her solo career with varied musical partnerships with Cindy Mangsen, Michael Smith, Priscilla Herdman, Jay Ansill, and Tom Paxton.

Only Anne Hills can make a song about road directions sound so heartfelt. Some of her songs sound a little bit country. Others show more than a bit of a blues and jazz influence. Whatever she sings sounds like it was newly invented.
